Lessons to Think About: Responding to Jesus' Call
Monday, Nov. 26, 2007
The following lesson was prepared by Rolly Tolentino.
"I have not come to invite the self-righteous to a change of
heart, but sinners." - Luke 5:32
When I heard that Jesus was inviting me to follow him, I responded to His call
with a resounding YES! I told the Lord that I am His, and that I will give Him
all my weaknesses, failures, and all my sins. I confessed that I am powerless to
change my heart and my life, but with Him, nothing is impossible. Jesus whispered
in my heart that I am His, and that He loves me and cares for me deeply. He had
promised that He will change me and use me for His purpose and will.
Jesus came to forgive, to heal, to redeem and to use us as His instruments of
His love. In this redemptive process, Jesus enables us, with the help of the Holy
Spirit, to grow in love with Him and to be a new creation. This is the prime
motive in responding to His call.
Lessons to Think About: Friendship with Jesus
Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007
The following lesson was prepared by Rolly Tolentino.
"You are my friends if you do what I command." - John 15:14
The Greek word for friend is philos, which means “loved one”.
I recently saw a good friend whom I have known since my teenage years. I felt
so excited and happy to see him when he visited Vancouver last month. I’m so
encouraged to see that he is so faithful in serving our Lord and still very much
in love with Jesus all these years! I saw in him the zeal and the zest in
following Christ in spite of the challenges and trials that he encounters daily.
If we really love Jesus, we will strive to do what is pleasing to Him. The
more we strive to please Him, the more strongly we will walk in His footsteps.
The more we walk in His footsteps and become closer to Him, the more we will be
identified with Him.
Jesus’ love for each one of us flows abundantly, and he constantly calls us His
philos, His loved ones, His friends...
