Lessons to Think About: Is This All There is in Life?

Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011
The following lesson was prepared by Fidel Gallevo.
"But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you." - Matthew 6:33

More often than not, we encounter this kind of question: Is this all there is in this lifetime? Every human being - rich or poor, mighty or lame, famous or infamous - is faced with this realism. You could be the President of the United States of America, the Queen of England, an Afghan soldier, or a dying senior in a nursing home in Russia. You’ll be confronted by a deep yearning, but all the things around you wouldn’t do any good. It’s like a feeling of incompleteness, as if one of your arms wasn’t there anymore or there’s a missing piece in a puzzle game you’re playing. What, then, would complete a person and what will it take to have it? It’s about coming to terms with our Creator, knowing His very purpose for His creation, and doing His will for our good and the good of all.

As a case study, let’s look into the lives of these two well-known personalities: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, India, and Princess Diana of England. Did you know that they both died in 1997? But how did they live their lives? Was there any “blank page” to find in their Book of Life? Mother Teresa was quoted, “...as to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus.” In a nun’s habit when she found the Lord, she was able to establish the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India that minister to the poorest of the poor.

Upon her death, she was beatified and given the title: Blessed Teresa of Calcutta by Pope John Paul II. What about Princess Diana? A typical ‘Cinderella’ girl who spent her entire life in misery after marrying the future King of England and beyond. She lived a glamorous lifestyle but behind the limelight, deep and hurtful conflict surmised, which print and broadcast media around the world hyped about. Then, on that fateful day in August, the car she was riding slammed into the 13th concrete post of the tunnel under Place de Alma in Paris, France, caused by a high-speed chase by paparazzi. As reported in Wikipedia: "In her burial, a set of rosary beads was placed in her hands, a gift she had received from Mother Teresa, who died the same week as Diana." Biography Online has added: "Shortly before her death, June 18th Princess Diana met with Mother Teresa. Both admired each other." Mother Teresa always said “Diana is my daughter.” With utmost humility Diana said “I am a very, very small Mother Teresa.” What do you think was the last entry in the Book of Life of Lady Diana Frances Spencer, Princess of Wales?

Like a scene at Golgotha more than 2000 years ago, a thief who was also to die on the cross had asked this from the Lord: Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom. The Lord responded: “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” It’s never too late to find meaning in this crazy world we live in. If you are caught up in this situation, try JESUS. He knows the Way, the Truth, and the Life. You need nothing more!

Jamming 4 Jesus: A Concert for the Soul

Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011
The following article was prepared by Rvie Tolentino for the CM Voice Newspaper

Jamming4FAITH. Jamming4HOPE. Jamming4LOVE. Jamming4HIM

Music is the language of the soul and if sang from the heart, it's praying twice - so said by St. Augustine.

CMPC members with voices of a thousand angels got together and organized a live free concert aimed at sharing and spreading the love of Jesus Christ to the parishioners of Canadian Martyrs and other people in attendance. The performers and technical staff spent hundreds of hours practicing and preparing for the show, and on May 28th, they've put on a lively and inspirational musical performance to the delight of the audience. The concert had a huge turnout, where people of all ages filled the main hall of the Canadian Martyrs Catholic Church that fateful Saturday. The people left the concert awe-struck and inspired by the positive and encouraging messages portrayed through theh personal testimonies and songs.

The concert had been a success, thanks to the hard work, generosity, and commitment of the 28 performers, 10 musicians, technical staff, and members of the Canadian Martyrs Prayer Community. But most especially, to our Lord Jesus Christ, to Him be the glory forever and ever - Amen!!!

Lessons to Think About: Growing In Faith with God

Monday, Feb. 28, 2011
The following lesson was prepared by Luming Gallevo.
"...Amen, amen, I say to you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above." - John 3:3

If we have genuinely made a commitment to Jesus Christ, we need to grow! An amazing transformation takes place the moment we pray and genuinely commit our life to Jesus Christ. We are spiritually born! Unless we are born again, we cannot see the kingdom of God, as John 3:3 tells us.

Just as a newborn baby is to grow physically, so are we to grow spiritually. A baby grows with the intake of food and the love of a family. In like manner, a person who is a spiritual newborn will grow with the intake of spiritual food (the Bible) and the love of their spiritual family (the Church)

Let me share with you five means of growth:

  1. BIBLE. Read one chapter of the BIBLE each day. 1 Peter 2:2 says, "As newborn babies, desire the pure milk of the word of God."
  2. PRAYER. Spend time each day in PRAYER conversing with God. Prayer is our direct communication line to God in heaven. We should pray about everything. Matthew 21:22 says, "If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."
  3. WORSHIP. Worship regularly in Church. It is a vital aspect of growth. God loves us and wants to spend time with us. God the Father seeks people to worship HIM in spirit and truth (John 4:23). The Bible clearly teaches the benefits and blessings of worship.
  4. FELLOWSHIP. Fellowship with Christians who will help us grow in faith. Fellowship with other Christians is not only a joy, but is absolutely essential to our growth. We learn and are encouraged by one another Hebrew 10:24 says, "And let us consider how we may spur one another toward love and good deeds."
  5. WITNESS. Be a WITNESS by telling others what Jesus Christ means to us. Witnessing is sharing the joy of our salvation with others. Our friends and family members need to know how to receive the gift of eternal life, too.

God has a place of victory for all of us. We may be facing challenges. In the natural, it may look like things won't ever change, but God is saying, "Quit looking at your circumstances and look up! Lift up your eyes of faith and look beyond where you are because there is a victory as far as the eyes can see."

Your enemies may have some power today, but remember, our God is All Powerful! There is no foe that can stand against Him. Those things we are facing are temporary, but God Almighty is eternal. He is the God who flung the stars into space and who spoke the world into existence. When He said, "Let there be light," light came at 186,000 miles per second. That's power and that's the God we serve.

Lessons to Think About: Discerning the Will of the Most High

Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011
The following lesson was prepared by Fidel Gallevo.
"Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." - Matthew 11:28-30

To accept the present moment, the reality that we see must be taken "as it is". It will affect us, of course. We cry for the sad things that happen. Not just the little things but the major turmoil that could possibly happen in our day to day life - like a death in the family or a diagnosed breast cancer to an aunt. As human beings, we have to face this reality. It is never enough to muster much courage in order to confront the challenge we are facing. We need the Grace of the Almighty God to know what is the "good" it will bring us. Yes! The goodness of God will come out in every scenario in our life. Always! No man escapes God's attention! It is only then that we could move on with our life. With gained confidence and strength, we are now ready to take on the next moment.

2011 Calendar Available

Monday, Jan. 3, 2011

The newly revamped 2011 CMPC calendar is now available in the Schedule page. The calendar contains the prayer meeting schedule for 2011. It also includes CMPC events, birthdays, and anniversaries, much like the earlier, Flash-based calendar that was available from 2006-2009.

For longtime members, you might notice that the new calendar looks less refined compared to the earlier Flash-based calendar. If time permits, the look and feel of the new calendar will be improved in the next few months; however, the goal at this time is to provide additional useful features that were not available in the older calendar (e.g., search functionality, a reincarnation of the "events menu", etc.). If you have any further suggestions, please let us know by using the form in the Contact page.
